We are delighted be able to offer this great new workshop for DSLR users.  We have two types of photography workshops available :

DSLR Beginners and the other more advanced course DSLR Users which is aimed for people already familiar with the DSLR functionalities.  Please read below for more details, dates & prices for these workshops.

Garden Photography for DSLR Beginners   Wednesday 17th May and Saturday 17th June

Then let Joe Wainwright give you expert guidance on how to harness the full power of your camera to take great garden images.  You will also be able to try out your new-found skills during a practical session in the beautiful surroundings of Stonyford Cottage Gardens.

Some of the topics covered during the day will be:

  • Taking control of your camera’s settings for more creative garden photos
  • How to spot great photo opportunities in a garden
  • How to compose your garden photos
  • Making the best use of different lighting conditions
  • How to get the best picture quality from your camera

The workshop is intended for people that use their DSLR cameras on automatic and want to use more advanced and creative settings so they can take better photographs of gardens.  Please
note: if you already use your camera in Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual Modes, please see our Garden Photography Workshop for DSLR Users.

  • This workshop will take place between 10 30am and 3.30 pm, with tea/coffee on arrival and during the day.

    You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch, or you can use the garden’s tea room which offers a range of light lunches, including paninis, jacket potatoes, quiche & sandwiches   Please note:  As the garden will be used during the day, please come prepared for outdoor work.

Garden Photography for DSLR Users Workshop   Thursday 18th May and Saturday 10th June

Are you a DSLR user who wants to take stunning images of gardens and plants?  Then let Joe give you the expert guidance and advice that will not only boost your photographic skills, but give you an insight into all the other elements that combine to make a great garden photograph. You will also be able to put all you have learned into action in the beautiful surroundings of Stonyford Cottage Gardens.

Some of the topics covered during the day will be:

  • How to spot photographic opportunities in the garden
  • Achieving great composition
  • Using movement in your garden photographs
  • Advanced use of lighting conditions
  • Macro photography for plant portraits
  • Using software to create the best possible garden image in post-production

This workshop is intended for: people with DSLR cameras who know how to use them in Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual Modes. Please note: if you use your camera on automatic settings and want to learn how to use its more advanced features, please see our Garden Photography Workshop for DSLR Beginners.

More about Joe Wainwright: Joe is a highly experienced professional photographer specialising in gardens. He won a Finalist Award in the 2016 International Garden Photographer of the Year competition, and a Commended Award in 2015. He is a full member of the Garden Media Guild and the Professional Garden Photographers’ Association. His work has been used by the RHS, National Trust and major gardens, and has been published in national and international newspapers and magazines.
